Generalized Albanese morphisms

We define generalizations of the Albanese variety for a projective variety X. The generalized Albanese morphisms X albr // _ _ _ Albr(X) contract those curves C in X for which the induced morphism Hom(π1(X),U(r)) → Hom(π1(C),U(r)) has a finite image. Thus, they may be interpreted as a U(r)-version of the Shafarevich morphism.

Characteristic morphisms of generalized episturmian words

In a recent paper with L. Q. Zamboni, the authors introduced the class of θ-episturmian words. An infinite word over A is standard θepisturmian, where θ is an involutory antimorphism of A∗, if its set of factors is closed under θ and its left special factors are prefixes. When θ is the reversal operator, one obtains the usual standard episturmian words. In this paper, we introduce and study θ-c...

Toeplitz Words, Generalized Periodicity and Periodically Iterated Morphisms (Extended Abstract)

We consider so-called Toeplitz words which can be viewed as generalizations of one-way innnite periodic words. We compute their subword complexity, and show that they can always be generated by iterating periodically a nite number of morphisms. Moreover, we deene a structural classiication of Toeplitz words which is reeected in the way how they can be generated by iterated morphisms.

1-motivic Sheaves and the Albanese Functor

Using sheaf theoretic methods, we define functors Lπ0 : DMeff(k) → D(HI≤0(k)) and LAlb : DMeff(k) → D(HI≤1(k)). The functor LAlb extends the one in [3] to nonnecessarily geometric motives. These functors are then used to define higher Néron-Severi groups and higher Albanese sheaves.
